Hingu or asafoetida

This is the brown gum resin having bitter, acrid taste and obnoxious odor , used in Indian cooking quite often... m sure you have a fair idea that what it is... I am talking about asafoetida...

Its latin name is ferula asafoetida, in hindi its hing and hingu in sanskrit. It is reputed as drug in case of flatulence and counteracts any spasmodic disorders. It is also a nervine stimulant, digestive agent and a sedative.

In respiratory disorders like whooping cough, asthma and bronchitis, about 3 - 6 cm of gum resin mixed with 2 tsp of honey , a quarter tsp of white onion juice and 1 tsp of betel juice, taken thrice daily would be helpful.
In stomach disorders, it is one of the best remedy for flatulence. In case of flatulence and distension of abdomen, asafoetida should be dissolved in hot water and a pad of cloth steeped in it may be used for fomenting the abdomen.
In toothache, asafoetida is slighted heated after being pestled in lemon juice. A cotton piece soaked in the lotion and placed in the cavity of the tooth, relieves pain quickly.

Simple remedies but very powerful !!!!
